COURSES
The LSA theme year, “The Theory and Practice of Citizenship: From the
Local to the Global,” is a pathway to the College curriculum. More than
130 courses related to the citizenship theme are being offered in Fall Term
2006, with additional courses scheduled for Winter Term 2007. These courses
cover a wide range of social science and humanities disciplines. Several provide
students with a knowledge base they can use to consider local, national and
global issues and to make informed, responsible decisions regarding them. Others
involve community service projects in which students can work for social justice
and the common good while gaining valuable knowledge, skills and experience
they can use as citizens now and in the future. These LSA courses helped place
the University of Michigan in the U.S. News and World Report 2006 list for best
service-learning programs in the nation.
