Gifts to the Strategic fund have supported the following initiatives:
- Undergraduate events: including the Classics Open House, Graduate School Informational Meeting, Concentration Fair, Study Abroad information sessions, Factio meetings, and the 2008 Undergraduate Archaeology conference
- Graduate student travel and conference expenses
- Developing, printing and mailing the Classics Newsletter
- Departmental events, including the Classics Fall Welcome reception and the American Philological Association party
Gerald F. Else Lecture Fund (C301729 301729)
Gifts to the Else fund have supported the annual Gerald Else lecture. The Else lecture continues to be a very special annual event in the life of the department and ensures we will never forget the contributions of Professor Gerald Else.
Additionally, the Else fund supports other department lectures and conference including:
- The biennial Graduate Student Conference
- The Contexts for Classics lecture with John Hamilton
- The 2007 Classics and Architecture Workshop with UCLA Professor Diane Favro
- The 2008 performance of “The Argument” with David Greenspan
- The 2009 Roman Archaeology Conference
Modern Greek Fund (C364043 364042)
Gifts to the Modern Greek fund have supported the following initiatives:
- Modern Greek printing and event supplies
- Modern Greek mailings
- Hosting speakers for Modern Greek events
The Arthur and Mary (Seiradakis) Platsis Endowment for the Greek Legacy was given to the University of Michigan by George Platsis to honor the memory of his parents. Funds from this endowment serve two main purposes:
- An annual Greek Legacy symposium
- Student prizes for original work relating to the Greek Legacy
