PhD in Classical Studies

  • About

Christian graduated in 2009 with a B.A. in Classics followed by an M.A. in Comparative Studies in 2013, both from Brigham Young University. His thesis, “Speaking for Himself: Odysseus and Rhetoric in Sophocles’ Philoctetes”, seeks to reconcile Heracles’ advice with Neoptolemus’ problematic behavior throughout the tragedy. Christian is excited for the broadening of interests and deepening of discussions that are sure to result from his new studies.

When not entirely absorbed in the world of the ancients, Christian enjoys spending time with his wife Jenny, his daughter Claire, and his cat Daphne. Ideal activities include camping, softball, and discussing the distance between moral characters and good characters.
