  Clara graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Classical Languages from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2008, and holds a certificate in Greek and Roman History from the University of Michigan. Her dissertation explores the relationship between ethnography and history, and ethnography and ecology in the literature of Classical antiquity. She likes literary forms that other people generally do not, especially handbooks, encyclopedias, and catalogues.
