PhD in Classical Studies
435 S State St, Ann Arbor, MI 48109-1003
Nick received his B.A. from the University of Chicago in 2010. His research is primarily focused upon the idea of monumentality in Roman literature and its reception up to the present day. Nick’s dissertation explores in particular the different ways that Roman poets both reflected and helped fashion how their contemporaries read Rome’s metamorphosis into a “city of marble” under Augustus.
When not contemplating the dialogue between architecture and text in the Roman imagination, Nick is passionate about applying the lessons we can learn from studying the ancient world to current issues in the world today – especially those issues which Detroit now faces as it begins a new stage in its own evolution as a city.
