The right type of degree and program for you will depend on your career goals. For preliminary advice about graduate school in Classical Studies, talk early and often to faculty, your concentration advisor, and graduate students at your home institution.
Classical Studies: Application Process
The application process for the graduate programs in Classical Studies is administered by the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies, and the deadline is January 5.
Masters Degree Program
The Department offers Master of Arts degree programs in Greek and in Latin. M.A.s in Latin and Greek serve primarily as supplementary degree programs for students pursuing Ph.D. degrees in related disciplines.
Ph.D. Program
Admission requires a minimum of three years of college Latin and two years of college Greek. Success in the program requires reading comprehension in German and French or Italian. Though not required, one modern language is strongly recommended.
