Online Giving Update from Peggy Burns

Monday, July 2, the CMS Web Services team will begin deploying an online giving button for College units.

Dear Colleagues,

As you know, the University is in the process of planning its next capital campaign. Many of you have begun working on your campaign priorities. And while major gifts obviously will be a crucial part of the campaign, smaller annual fund gifts and increased participation among alumni will also be important, yielding valuable funds for many academic units in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts.

To facilitate gifts to all LSA academic units, we will be deploying an online giving button across the College’s CMS websites. Fewer than half our departments currently link to their gift accounts within the University’s online giving system. And since the University has recently changed its online giving software, many of the existing links are now broken.

To ensure these links are fixed, to improve the consistency and location of giving links, and to make the process cleaner and easier for donors and academic units alike, these giving buttons will automatically appear on CMS websites on Monday July 2, 2012.

Units not in the CMS can contact lsa.web.support@umich.edu for instructions on how to place a giving button on their sites.

With public funds for public educating waning and the liberal arts facing increased scrutiny from a world focused on professional schools and rising tuition, this coming capital campaign will be a significant step in ensuring LSA’s standing as the heart of the University of Michigan. This measure is one small piece of that effort.

If you have any comments or concerns, please let me know. And of course, as the giving buttons launch, our web team will be monitoring the sites for any problems, but should you notice an issue, please do not hesitate to report it to lsa.web.support@umich.edu.

Regards,
Peggy Burns
