Derek Granitz is interested in the intersections betwen fictional entertainment television programs and politics. This includes the depictions of political characters, stories, and parties, as well as individual socio-political issues. His previous work examined the treatments of conservative politics in post-911 primetime fictional series, and specifically the representations of Bush-era foreign policy as well as politically identified conservative characters. Recently, he has begun work on a thorough investigation into the depictions of the death penalty across seventeen disparate contemporary crime procedurals.
