  • About

Yu Won Oh is interested in how new venues online have reshaped the communication dynamics inside society. She primarily focuses on how online discussion spaces function as a field of opinion expression for individuals, particularly in light of social and political participation, and how close these venues have come to the anticipated image of a platform for participatory democracy. As part of these research efforts, in her dissertation, she investigates which online structural condition makes people feel free to speak out during public discussion. Her recent papers have been recognized with the 2012 Naomi C. Turner Prize from the WAPOR and the 2013 Top Student Paper Award (first mention) from the NCA Political Communication Division.
