Yu Won Oh is interested in how new venues online have reshaped the communication dynamics inside society. She primarily focuses on how online spaces function as a field of opinion expression for individuals, particularly in light of social and political participation, and how close these venues have come to the anticipated image of a platform for participatory democracy. Her current studies examine online agenda development and the structural characteristics of online contexts that may change individuals’ speaking-out behavior. Her recent paper has been awarded the Naomi C. Turner Prize (top student paper award) from WAPOR.
