Concentration Application & Declaration
We invite interested students to apply to the Communication Studies concentration. Space in this rigorous concentration program is limited to ensure adequate faculty and program resources to serve students and provide a high-quality educational experience. Admission is highly competitive and is not guaranteed.
To be eligible to apply, students must have:
- At least sophomore or junior class standing. Students must apply no later than the 2nd semester of their junior year. Applications will not be accepted from seniors. Transfer and dual degree (Multiple Dependent Degree Program) students should contact the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for additional information
- Completed the Communication Studies prerequisite courses, which are:
- Comm 101: The Mass Media which is graded
- Comm 102: Media Processes and Effects which is graded
- Comm 111: Workshop on Managing the Information Environment which is taken for credit
- Comm 211: Evaluating Information which is graded
- Completed Comm 101, Comm 102, and Comm 211 with a grade of C- or higher in each course. Students will not be allowed to substitute grades from repeated Communication Studies prerequisite courses for application purposes
Application Deadlines
- Fall – August 15th (no later than 5:00 p.m.)
- Winter – December 15th (no later than 5:00 p.m.)
Note: If the application deadline falls on a weekend, applications will be due the following Monday, no later than 5:00 p.m.
