Major Declaration

Effective Fall 2013

To be eligible to declare, students must have:

  • At least sophomore or junior class standing. Students must declare no later than the 2nd semester of their junior year. Transfer and dual degree (MDDP) students should contact the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for additional information
  • Completed the following prerequisite courses:
    • Comm 101: The Mass Media, 4 credits, requires freshman or sophomore standing
    • Comm 102: Media Processes and Effects, 4 credits, requires freshman or sophomore standing
    • Comm 121: Evaluating Information and Analyzing Media I, 4 credits, requires freshman or sophomore standing
    • Comm 122: Evaluating Information and Analyzing Media II, 4 credits, prerequisite: Comm 121
  • Completed Comm 101, Comm 102, Comm 121, and Comm 122 with a grade of C- or higher in each course. Students will not be allowed to substitute grades from repeated prerequisite courses for declaration purposes
  • At least a 2.7 prerequisite grade point average (43.2 honor points)
  • Students who do not have at least a 2.7 minimum prerequisite grade point average will not be allowed to declare this major
