The Department of Comparative Literature was founded in 1937, making it one of the first centers for comparative literature studies in the nation. The faculty, students, and staff associated with the Department have contributed to both its prestige and longevity.
Faculty: Our faculty represents the diversity of the comparative literature discipline and hold joint appointments with 10 other departments, including Asian Languages and Cultures, American Culture, the Center for Afro-American and African Studies, Classics, English, German, History, Romance Languages and Literatures, Near Eastern Studies, and Slavic Languages and Literatures.
Graduate Students: Our graduate students join us from all over the world. Their broad range of interests influences the intellectual life of the program with new events and long-standing traditions such as the Comparative Literature Brown Bag Series and Comparative Literature Intra-Student Faculty Forum (CLIFF).
Staff: Our staff members collectively possess years of administrative and academic expertise. They strive to make the faculty and students successful in their academic pursuits and extracurricular endeavors.
