  Born and raised in Detroit, Ty is an alumnus of the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. He earned his degree in sociology in May of 2009. While a student, he spent many years employed with the University of Michigan, mainly with the Comprehensive Studies Program. During his time as a student, Ty was affiliated with many groups including Posse, First Gens, Big Brother, CSP, etc. In 2012, he recommenced working with the Comprehensive Studies Program as the Advising Information Assistant.
