Makeda is an alumnus of Eastern Michigan University (EMU). She graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree with a concentration in Marketing in 2002, and a Master of Art Degree in Educational Leadership –Student Affairs in 2007. She began working for the University of Michigan in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in 2005 as an Admissions Counselor. She then went on to work in the Detroit Admissions office as a Recruitment Coordinator in 2006. She recruited students from the Metro Detroit Areas such as, Detroit, Southfield, Pontiac and Oak Park. Makeda has worked in the higher educational sector since 2004.
