    POSITIONS

After two years as a graduate teaching fellow at Miami, I taught for four years in a private school in New Haven CT  and then for two years at the English Department at Eastern Michigan University.   In 1972 I began working for University of  Michigan, first  as a teacher and advisor with the Integrated Medical program (Inteflex) and with the Residential College.

From 1978 to 1986 I was with the English Composition Board.  As a co-director I administered  writing assessments, trained new instructional staff and represented the unit at national conferences.  I taught writing tutorials and  I also worked with the the ECB 's outreach program as a consultant to more than 30 Michigan high schools.

In 1986 I moved to the Comprehensive Studies Program where I  teach CSP105, "Insiders and Outsiders" a reading/writing seminar that emphasizes cross-cultural understanding.   I also teach UC210, "Perspectives on Careers in Medicine and Health Care", a course that I had started back in my Residential College days to meet the needs of the many UM undergraduates who consider themselves pre-med but who lack the knowledge  they need to make informed career decisions. This course. now in its 35th continuous year of meeting at my house every Thursday evening during term,  will be offered in Fall, 2009.
