Geologist, environmental scientist, oceanographer, teacher, lawyer, entrepreneur, health professional, and policy expert are some of the many careers that our undergraduates have pursued. Through lectures, labs, and seminars on campus, field trips and Camp Davis courses, Earth and Environmental Sciences students prepare to support the needs of modern society, while being responsible stewards for planet Earth in this critical period of globalization and development.
The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences offers two concentration programs: Earth and Environmental Sciences (formerly Geological Sciences) and Earth Systems Science, either of which can be undertaken as Honors programs. The Department also offers academic minors in Earth Sciences, Environmental Geology, Oceanography, and Paleontology, as well as a Teacher's Certificate Program.
To declare an Earth and Environmental Sciences concentration or minor, students should make an appointment with a Department faculty advisor. Visit Earth and Environmental Sciences Advising for contact information.
For University of Michigan undergraduate students seeking an extended research experience, we offer a fifth-year MS program through CUGS.
