Environmental scientist Joel D. Blum has been awarded the 2013 Clair C. Patterson Award from the Geochemical Society for his groundbreaking research on mercury.
For the first time, the chemical "fingerprints" of the element mercury have been used by UM researchers to directly link environmental pollution to a specific coal-burning power plant.
Joel Blum, the John D. MacArthur Professor of Geological Sciences and professor of ecology and evolutionary biology is a newly elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
