Balisi spent the summer of 2009 at the UMBS doing a research project under the guidance of Professor Paul Webb and Brian Scholtens of the College of Charleston, S.C. She studied the effect of accelerated aspen-dominated forest senescence on insect populations and bird land use.

She is currently studying resource partitioning among the Late Pleistocene carnivorans of Rancho La Brea, Los Angeles, California, using analysis of dental microwear.
