International Students 2013

Pamela Murillo Rojas, Adrian Melo Carrillo, Xinzhu Wei, Mauricio Santos Vega.

Bienvenidos!

A special welcome to our incoming international students Adrian Melo Carrillo, Pamela Murillo Rojas, Mauricio Santos Vega, and Xinzhu Wei.

They arrived in Ann Arbor earlier this summer to attend an English Language Institute course that provides graduate student instructor training for students who will teach during the following academic year.

The students are joining EEB from the following institutions: Melo Carillo (B.S. Universidad de  las Americas, Puebla, México); Murillo Rojas (B.S., M.S. Universidad de Costa Rica); Santos Vega was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute research assistant in the lab of Professor Mercedes Pascual last year (B.S., Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogatá, Colombia); Wei (B.S. Fudan University, Shanghai, China).

Wei is here because of her interest in Professor George Zhang's research. “Besides, Ann Arbor is such a nice and safe place, I don't need to worry about my safety during my Ph.D. study. People at U-M are very friendly and helpful, which makes me feel comfortable.”

“I'm excited to be part of EEB because I know it is a prestigious program and has the best faculty in ecology and evolutionary biology,” said Murillo Rojas.  “Besides, I’m pleased to have the opportunity to work with my advisor, Professor Barry OConnor, who is well known in the world because of his work with mites. Being here is like a dream come true for an academic and a scientist. To have this chance is one in a million!”

“I love that the lab I'll be working in is inside the museum, I think that's pretty cool”, said Melo Carrillo. “I've met a lot of people from my department and they are all super nice. I don't think I will have any problem adapting to Ann Arbor. I think Ann Arbor has a well-balanced atmosphere of study and social life (from what I've seen so far), so I couldn't ask for more, and well, the university is one of the best universities in the world.”

More information on these and all of our incoming students is coming soon.
