Detroit News editorial: Nadelhoffer and Scavia: climate change evidence overwhelming
Thursday, January 31, 2013
The January 31, 2013 editorial begins, “In his inaugural address, President Barack Obama said, ‘We will respond to the threat of climate change, knowing that the failure to do so would betray our children and future generations.’ It was gratifying to hear the president finally making climate change a priority. The evidence is overwhelming and the time to act has long been upon us.”
The editorial goes on to review the scientific evidence and call for action. Knute Nadelhoffer is a professor of ecology and evolutionary biology and the director of the U-M Biological Station. Donald Scavia is director of the U-M Graham Sustainability Institute, the Graham Family Professor of Environmental Sustainability, and a professor of natural resources and environment and civil and environmental engineering.
“It's time to move on from old debates about whether human-caused climate change is occurring and start making decisions that minimize future climate change,” they conclude.
