Academic background
I received the B.S. degree (with distinction) in Zoology from Iowa State University in 1971, and the Ph.D. in Entomology (Acarology) from Cornell University in 1981. I was a post-doctoral fellow at the University of California, Berkeley. I have subsequently served as a visiting professor at Ohio State University (Acarology Summer Program), and the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biologicas, Instituto Politecnico Nacional, Mexico City, Mexico.

Welcome new associate chair
Professor and Chair Deborah E. Goldberg announced that Barry OConnor has generously taken on the tough task of associate chair for curriculum in EEB for a three-year term.
Advising award
Professor Barry M. OConnor is the recipient of the 2006 Excellence in Concentration Advising Award. This award recognizes his reputation as a sympathetic, interested and knowledgeable professor who has advised more students each semester than any other faculty member.
