Research interests

My major interests are in community ecology and plant-animal interactions. I seek to understand how species interactions, such as competition and mutualism, and environmental disturbances determine species diversity and the evolution of traits. Most recently, I have studied how environmental changes such as introduced species, habitat fragmentation and hurricane disturbances affect species reproductive success and persistence. Locally, I am testing whether escape from herbivores gives some introduced plant species a competitive advantage over native plants. Because islands are especially vulnerable to environmental changes, I am also studying pollination and plant reproduction and recruitment in the Bahamas.
