Jay Cook Kicks Off 2012-13 Speakers Series with "Finding Otira"

On September 13, 2012, Jay Cook, an associate professor of history at the University of Michigan, kicked off the Eisenberg Institute's 2012-13 programming with his talk, "Finding Otira: On the Geopolitics of Black Celebrity, 1770-1930." The event attracted a capacity crowd.

University of Michigan account holders can access an audio recording of Professor Cook's talk.

Professor Cook's lecture was part of the Institute's Thursday Speaker Series, which presents lectures relating to the current biennial theme, Taking Place: History and Spatial Imaginations.
