Graduate Student Research Fellow
Sara Katz is a Ph.D. student who received a B.A. in Photography and History from Bard College in 2007 and joined the History Department of the University of Michigan in the fall of 2011. She specializes in modern Nigerian history. In the summer of 2012, she spent three months conducting field and archival research in Nigeria on youth and masculinity, which she presented last year at a Print Cultures Workshop and at an Eisenberg Institute workshop.
Sara started her Eisenberg Institute fellowship by visiting archives in Nigeria and London over the summer. She also took intensive second year Arabic in Cairo and Amman. She looks forward to using the supportive intellectual space of the Institute to develop her new research topic on the history of the hajj pilgrimage by Nigerians.
