Graduate Student Research Fellow, Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies
Ph.D. Candidate, History

  • About

Katya Mishuris is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of History at the University of Michigan. Her research interests focus on the history of the human sciences (especially psychology and psychiatry) and modern Russian history, with allied interests in gender and sexuality and the history and philosophy of childhood. Her dissertation will analyze the changing understandings of “gifted children” and the responses they evoked in social and behavioral scientists and clinicians in Russia from the late-nineteenth century to the 1930s.

Katya plans to use the Eisenberg Institute’s research grant for the drafting of her dissertation. Building on her previous archival and library research in St. Petersburg and Moscow and working through the collected materials, she hopes to have finished writing the majority of her dissertation by the end of the fellowship term.
