    Judy has been teaching at the ELI at the University of Michigan since 2000. Before completing a PhD in Linguistics she worked for the British Council as an English-language specialist in materials design, and teacher trainer for ESL in Beijing and Guangzhou, China. She has also taught English in Algeria, France, the Czech Republic, Spain and Britain. Her main teaching interests are academic writing, advanced academic speaking, pronunciation, ESL teacher training and materials development. Recently she co-wrote and was a visiting consultant on a three year long US Aid funded project at the University of Mentouri, in Constantine, Algeria, working with Algerian colleagues to write a set of materials for students studying English in the School of Business and Economics. Previous projects have included two text book series for students in China and advanced academic speaking classes for faculty and graduate students at the University of Extremadura, Badajoz, Spain. Recent and forthcoming publications include work on language and dialect acquisition, language and identity and instructors’ use of questions in one on one writing tutorials.
