ELI 372

ELI 372 is designed for both graduate and undergraduate students who seek to increase their spoken and written English vocabulary for enhanced fluency, reading comprehension, and writing clarity. We will work on mastering the words and phrases that are specific to academic writing and speaking, as well as everyday idioms, expressions, and abbreviations. 

One of the greatest challenges in vocabulary among advanced speakers of a second language is choosing which words go together smoothly; this course will aid students in learning these patterns. Predicting the pronunciation patterns of new words and phrases can be equally tricky, so the course includes a pronunciation emphasis on word and phrase stress and rhythm. In other words, the purpose of this course is to help students? understanding and appropriate use of university-level vocabulary and phraseology.
