We are delighted to report a generous endowment gift of $140,000 by Jessie B Quinn, a 1930 LSA graduate who resides in Santa Barbara, California, and by her daughter Anne Paulson (English graduate, 1963) of Kalamazoo, Michigan. The Undergraduate English Association is the recipient of this fund, along with the Honors students in our Department. To quote Mrs.Quinn, "Some of my fondest memories come from my experience in Ann Arbor...[the] happiest, most exciting days of my life." This gift will contribute to the intellectual excitement of our undergraduates by supporting (1) lectures and readings by writers and thinkers nominated by our students, (2) some social activities of the UEA, and (3) our undergraduate literary magazine, Xylem.

In order to enable this endowment gift, the Quinn family invested in a highly appreciated security which exempted them from paying capital gains tax while giving them a charitable deduction. We are in turn most appreciative!
