What can you do with an English degree?
Well, just about anything that requires good communication skills, proper use of the English language, and creativity in expressing ideas and concepts. Excluding the hard sciences, perhaps, that leaves a myriad of career choices before you. So if you really enjoy writing and reading widely, go for it! My U-M English degree propelled me into a career in journalism, advertising, and public relations in both the profit and nonprofit sectors. It has been a great ride: from helping to create effective marketing campaigns, to researching and writing annual reports, to a variety of other assignments calling for clear, persuasive, sometimes inspirational, writing. Each day is challenging and rewarding when you have the opportunity to put your liberal education and skills with the English language to work on behalf of your client’s needs.
