A Conversation with Maria Damon
Please join the Poetry & Poetics workshop for a conversation with Maria Damon (University of Minnesota) regarding "Poetry and Cultural Studies: A Reader."
This conversation will center on and develop from Poetry and Cultural Studies: A Reader, which Damon co-edited with Ira Livingston. A quick glance at the Table of Contents will reveal that the Reader includes work by Kamau Brathwaite, Rachel Blau DuPlessis, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, and Henry Louis Gates, Jr., to name a few, as well as a “Precursors” section that includes William Wordsworth, Theodor Adorno, and W. E. B. DuBois. With such a wide range of work as well as a claim for “precursors,” the Reader offers us a rich field for inquiry. We hope to talk with Damon about the questions and challenges involved with curating this collection, especially questions of what and whom to include, how to group texts, and how to construct a history of poetry and cultural studies.
For those interested, the Introduction and Table of Contents will be available on the Poetry & Poetics Workshop’s CTools page. To join the page, please contact Aran Ruth (firstname.lastname@example.org). However, we know it is a busy time of the semester, and this reading is not necessary to contribute to the conversation! We hope to see you on the 29th!
