A Reading and Conversation with Rob Halpern
Poet Rob Halpern (EMU) will visit the workshop to discuss his latest poetic project.
This reading and conversation will center on Halpern's recent poetic and discursive explorations of eros and the body in relation to global warfare, what Jeffrey Berg describes as “a linguistic symphony of the fetishization and politicization of the body of the soldier and an exploration of intimacy and desire” (Review on Lambda Literary). Halpern situates his work “[i]n the confusion of our current geo-political conflicts” as well as in the tradition of Whitman’s Drum Taps. At this event, Halpern will read from various works, including new work related to Guantanamo Bay detainees. As a starting point, we hope to talk with Halpern about his experiments with poetic address in a global context, and we look forward to developing a conversation with all in attendance.
Please note: a familiarity with Halpern's work is not required in order to participate. However, if you wish to read some of Halpern's work in advance, please contact Aran Ruth (email@example.com) to join the P&PW CTools site!
