"Actions, Articulations, and Awareness: How Doing and Saying through Audio-Visual Composition Supports Learning in First-Year Writing"
Drawing on data from a qualitative study conducted in two first-year writing classrooms, this talk will make the case that "meta-awareness about composition," a concept linked to the transfer of writing knowledge, is developed through actions and articulations in a recursive process. Considering the experiences of six students, the speaker will delineate four indicators of movement toward the development of meta-awareness that instructors and students can observe and work toward through new media composition (and other assignments) in the writing classroom.
