On behalf of the English Department Writing Program (EDWP) Writing Prize Committee, we’re pleased to announce the winners of the 2010 EDWP Prize for Excellence in First-Year Writing:

• Jake Atkinson, “Alcohol and the Laws that Govern it in the United States,” submitted by Genevieve Creedon.
• Katie Long, “Smartphone Stupidity: What the Windows Mobile Phone Advertisements Tell Us About Ourselves,” submitted by Shane Slattery-Quintanilla.
• Emily VanDusen, “Fear and Self-Loathing in Ohio: The Consequences of Isolation as Seen in ‘Strength of God’ and ‘Loneliness,’” submitted by Jennifer McFarlane-Harris.

We also awarded one honorable mention to:
