Primary Interests

Middle English literature - Chaucer, Langland; medieval comparative literature (Latin, French); history of spirituality; religious literature (particularly lives of Christ).

Secondary Interests

Classical comparative literature (Greek, Latin); the epic; early Christian poetry; creative writing (poetry).

Prudentius’ Psycomachia: A Reexamination (Princeton University Press, 1976); two articles on Chaucer; Teaching Writing that Works (University of Michigan Press, 1990); some poems. In progress: A Study of the Poetics of Piers Plowman and an Introduction to Poetry text.
