"Regional Nature and the Nature of Regions"
Description:
This talk grows out of my experience in editing a new anthology of New England nature writing. My intention is to go well beyond the usual suspects (my joking title is "No Thoreau") and reflect current conversations about what we mean by "New England," "nature," and "nature writing." Is there such a thing as "New England nature"--that is, a version of nature that is specific to that region of the country? What does it look like? What kinds of writing engage and reflect it?
