Be the first to know the details of exciting NEW courses geared both to non-majors and to majors from the professors themselves. Subjects include: Shakespeare, African American literature, the Bible in English, 20th-century novels, Fantasy, Graphic Novels, Civil Rights rhetoric, Drama and Performance. If you have questions about the major, there will be people available to answer your questions.
Every year, students who are taking or have taken courses in the Department of English are invited to nominate a professor and/or GSI for awards to be presented by the Undergraduate English Association at English Commencement. If you have an instructor that you think deserves an award, please follow the nomination process:
We will be accepting nominations for awards between now and Friday, March 26th at 5pm. Send nominations HERE. Please limit your nominations to no more than one (1) professor and/or one (1) GSI (if you would like to nominate one of each, that is more than alright, as long as each nomination is sent in its own email).

Famed Children's authors and illustrators David Small and Sarah Stewart will be in Angell Hall to discuss their work, their lives as writers and illustrators, and the publishing industry. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is considering a career in Creative Writing or Publishing!
David Small's latest book, Stitches, is a graphic novel that is not for for children, per say. It has a darker tone that is sure to intrigue many. Read more about it here.

On March 9, 2009, the Undergraduate English Association, on behalf of Hillel and the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching, honored English Professor Ralph Williams with the first ever Golden Apple Lifetime Achievement Award. In Professor Williams' honor, we will be putting together a Book of Appreciation. Please submit your memories, first impressions, and/or unforgettable quotes to ueawilliams@umich.edu. So that everyone can be included, please limit your responses to two double-spaced pages in a .doc format. We still have room available for responses, so submit them before April 1st, and we'll be sure to get them into the book (which will be presented to Professor Williams on April 21st).
