How to Schedule

Our main office handles the scheduling of group visits to the Museum for tours and Planetarium shows.  Our Planetarium Director handles scheduling outreach to classrooms, covered at the bottom of this page. 

Group Visits

To schedule a group visit to the Museum, please call (734) 764-0478 between 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.

Group reservations must be made by telephone.

All reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance.

If you get a recording, leave your name and phone number. We will call you back as soon as possible.

You will need the following information:

Date and time you'd like to visit

Number of children and adults

Activities you'd like to schedule

School address and phone number

Fees

Each tour and Planetarium show has a per person fee as noted within its description.

No more reservation fees! A non-refundable $75 deposit (or full payment, whichever is less) is due within 3 weeks of making your reservation, to hold your program time and date. Your deposit will be applied to your program fee. The remaining balance is due upon arrival. No additional fee will be charged.

Cash, check, or credit card (Visa, Mastercard).  Make checks payable to "U-M Exhibit Museum."

Teachers accompanying groups will be admitted free.  Chaperones and parents are charged the same as students.  We recommend 1 chaperone for every 10 students.

For home-schooled and other non-institutional groups, the Museum will admit up to 3 adults free for every group of 10-30 visitors.

Confirmation

A confirmation letter with program information, pre- and post-visit materials, parking instructions, and map will be mailed upon receipt of your reservation fee.  Please read this information carefully and call us immediately if anything is incorrect.

Arrivals

All scheduled activities begin at quarter past the hour.  Please arrive early to pay group fees, use the restrooms and hang up your coats. While we try to accommodate late groups, those arriving more than half an hour late may have to accept a restructured program.

Parking

There is ample free bus parking in the lot behind the Museum.  Non-bus parking is extremely limited.  We will send a map with your confirmation letter suggesting several parking options.  Allow extra time for non-bus parking.  Please see the Directions and Parking page for more details.

Cancellations & Weather Policy

Groups that cancel or do not show up as scheduled forfeit their $10 reservation fee.  Exceptions are made for inclement weather.

Outreach to Classrooms

Outreach Fees:

1-2 Programs $200
   3 Programs $250
   4 Programs $290
(Four programs per day maximum.  Multiple presentations limited to set-up in one location.)

A $30.00 travel fee is charged for trips more than thirty miles from Ann Arbor. Class size is generally limited to 36 students per presentation.

Space Requirements:

We require a space that can be made very dark.  It takes about 45 minutes to set up in a new space.  We need to be able to use the space for the duration of the presentation(s).

At least one table and a TV/VCR are required.

The Museum provides everything else.
