A picture is worth a thousand words. That might sound trite, but it’s true. Images tell your story in a glance. Remember the following when choosing images:

  • Does your image tell a story? Are people standing still and looking directly at the camera? If so, the story you are telling is that you just took a snapshot. That’s not a compelling story. Try to choose imagery that shows the amazing work of LSA in action.
  • Remember your audience. You know what is happening in a photo because you were there, but does that translate to anyone outside you and your group? Will an outside observer understand the context surrounding the photo if they know nothing about your group?
  • Check the resolution of your photo. For print use, make sure your photo is at least 300 dpi at the size it will be used. (Do not artificially increase the resolution of a photo—it has to be taken at the correct size.)
  • Check the quality of the photo. Did a professional photographer take it? Chances are, if the answer is no, your photo quality is poor. Especially if it was taken on a smartphone. Is the photo lit well? Are there shadows behind people’s heads? On their faces? These are also marks of a poor quality image.
