    Andrew D. Martin is Dean of the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and Professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan.

    Dean Martin's expertise is in the study of judicial decisionmaking, with special emphasis on the U.S. Supreme Court and the lower federal courts. He also works extensively in the field of political methodology and applied statistics. He has published in leading social science and applied statistics journals.  His research has been supported by the National Science Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health. Dean Martin was elected as a Fellow of the Society for Political Methodology in 2012.

    Dean Martin is also a collaborator on The Supreme Court Database project and a co-author with Lee Epstein of An Introduction to Empirical Legal Research (Oxford University Press). With his collaborator Kevin M. Quinn, Dean Martin developed the Martin-Quinn Scores that are widely used to measure ideology on the U.S. Supreme Court.

    Dean Martin joined the University of Michigan in 2014.  He was previously Charles Nagel Chair of Constitutional Law and Political Science at the Washington University School of Law, and served as Vice Dean of the School of Law, Founding Director of the Center for Empirical Research in the Law, and Chair of the Department of Political Science in Arts & Sciences. He is a principal of the analytics consultancy Principia Empirica LLC.

    Dean Martin teaches courses in judicial decisionmaking and political methodology at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
