Academic Advising, Standards, Academic Integrity & Conduct

Students who become ill are encouraged to self report their illness by clicking on the LSA site, "What to Do If You're Sick." Once a student reports her/his illness, the instructors are notified of the student's absence, and the student is instructed to contact their instructors to arrange for making up the missed work. If you become aware that a student is ill, please instruct the student to self report the illness by clicking on the "What to Do If You're Sick" site.

Given the possible threat of the H1N1 virus hitting our campus this semester, we anticipate that there will be an unusually high number of student absences from your classes.  In the past, students have been required to present documentation of an illness if they are absent from class.  This documentation has been necessary in order to excuse the absence and to provide an accommodation.  The Chief Medical Officer of the University has indicated that the University Health Service will not be issuing any documentation of H1N1 student illness.  This means that as instructors you will have to be flexible and reasonable in responding to students' requests for accommodation.  Particularly this year I think it is important, if you have not already done so, to consider how you will provide accommodation for a student who has missed an exam or quiz.   If you have any questions of the veracity of a student's claim, you may contact the Office of the Assistant Dean for Student Academic Affairs.
