Advisor Handbook
Advisor Handbook: https://sharepoint.umich.edu/lsa/saa/handbook/default.aspx.
This is a collection of frequently used links and a clearinghouse for information on policies and resources related to academic advising. It is fully searchable and has a page devoted specifically to department advisors (the “Major Advising” tab).
- Student Advising File and the Advising Report
- Brown Bags archives (under Newnan Events for Advisors)
- Training and support program for department advisors (under Training & Resources)
- Reference Manual pdf (under Training & Resources)
- Tutorial videoes on the Student Advising File (under Training & Resources)
- And last but not least: Discussion Boards: These are intended as a forum for exchange on topics of interest across the College. The Boards will remain open indefinitely, although those highlighted will change on a regular basis. For each Board, in the “Actions” drop down menu (upper lefthand), you can set an alert so that you will receive an email whenever there is a new post. Topic suggestions for new boards should be sent to Chris Leubbe (auster@umich.edu).
Access/Login
Access to the Handbook is given to all departmental users of the Student Advising File. Once access has been granted, you will need to type
umroot\
before your uniqname when you are prompted for your uniqname and Kerberos password.
Feedback/Training
The Handbook is a continuously updated site maintained by a team of general advisors. We rely on departments to provide the most current information for content related to their programs. Please alert the Newnan Center with updates, error reports, and suggestions for improvement. You may contact your Department Liaison or the Coordinator of Major Advising (Chris Leubbe, auster@umich.edu)
