  • About

Mate Bojti joined the German department at the University of Michigan in Fall 2011. He was born in Budapest, Hungary, but moved to Toronto with his family when he was 4. Mate completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto, where he studied German, political theory, and English. He also spent an exchange year abroad at the Universität Freiburg. Mate's more general scholarly interests include 18th and 19th century literature, philosophy, and political theory. He is also interested in the connection between German classical music and the humanities, such as Schubert's musical settings of Goethe, and Nietzsche's writings on Beethoven. In addition to German and English, Mate speaks Hungarian and French. He is fascinated by questions of grammar and translation, and he is very interested in language teaching, having taught English to Germans, English to French students, and now, in his Deutsch 101 class, German to English speakers.
