M.-Niclas is a third-year Ph.D. student pursuing a joint doctoral degree between the German Studies Department and the Department of Screen Arts and Cultures. He received his M.A. in English Studies and German Linguistics from the University of Freiburg, with one year spent abroad as a Teaching Assistant at Michigan State University. His Master's thesis was entitled "Aspects of Gender in Hollywood Horror Movies." His current interests lie in the reappropriation of historical German iconography by popular and mass culture, such as the prominence of the swastika in horror and war video games. He contributed a chapter named "Deleting Memory Space: The Gaming of History and the Absence of the Holocaust" to a volume entitled Immersions (forthcoming in early 2012) and has presented on Digital Cultures, Masculinity, Weimar Stardom and Problems of Authorship in Video Games at numerous conferences. In 2011, he collaborated with Professor Johannes von Moltke in designing the newly created 300-level class "Fascist Cinemas."
