Imbissbuden-Deutsch
Warum ist das relevant?
- Thema: Essen bestellen [=to order]
- Gutes Beispiel für die koordinierende Konjunktion sondern
- Preview of war [=was]; good review of the verb "sein"
- Warnung: this sketch makes fun of the grammatical peculiarities of the colloquial German heard in informal contexts like Imbissbuden [see below]. The examples are authentic (and useful!), but the intent is humorous.
Hilfe mit dem Text des Sketchs:
die Imbissbude = place where you can get things like Bratwurst, Fritten, Frikadellen [=Hamburger patties]; usually you eat there standing up, or take your food with you
die Folge = episode
die Mehrzahl = der Plural
Zwei Bratwurst bitte [the point here is that in formal German you would expect the plural, zwei Bratwürste]
Geübte Besteller gehen noch einen Schritt weiter und konkretisieren ihre Bestellung = Practiced "orderers" go one step further and make their order (more) concrete.
Einmal zwei halbe Hahn [ein "halve(r) Hahn" = a rye roll w. cheese & e.g. mustard & a pickle] [the joke here is that he orders "einmal zwei halbe Hahn," i.e. "one order of two 'halbe Hahn,'" which becomes even sillier since "halb" literally means "half."]
keine Artikel außer [=except for] "den"
Kommt auf den [correct accusative plural here would be die] Pommes noch was drauf? = Do you want something on the fries?
Es geht auch ohne Hauptwort = You can do without a noun, too
Hier kam noch zweimal ohne! [you would expect nouns after "zweimal" and especially after the preposition "ohne"]
Richtig antworten =
Waren Sie die Thüringer?
Sagen Sie nicht, was Sie wollen [=want], sondern, was sie sind.
Ey nein! Ich ___ das Schaschlik, er ___ die Pommes!
Aber Pils ____ ___ beide? - Genau!

Warum ist das relevant?
- Thema: Essen bestellen [=to order]
- Viele Beispiele für möchten
- Preview of the prepositions mit [=with] & ohne [=without]
- Stefan Raab ist ein verrückter, sehr populärer deutscher Komiker.
Hilfe mit dem Text des Sketchs:
die Gefahr = danger ["Raab in Gefahr" is a popular segment on Raab's show in which he usually does something dangerous, but here the title is ironic]
das Fünf-Sterne Restaurant =
Freundlichkeit hat einen Namen =
der McDrive Schalter =
die Bestellannahme = place where you place your orders
erst [=first] das Produkt, dann die Anzahl [=quantity] =
hupen = to honk/sound the horn ==> Wenn die Bestellung richtig ist, dann hupen Sie bitte =
Fritten = Colloquial German for "Pommes Frites" [the other colloquial alternative is to call them "die Pommes", pronouncing the final "es," as in the "Imbissbudendeutsch" sketch above]
die Bestellung gesungen aufgeben = to place the order by singing
das Sparmenü = value menu
die Tüte = small paper/plastic bag ==> die Junior-Tüte =
Seien Sie mal nicht so zickig = Now don't be so "bitchy"
aus•steigen = to get out [of a vehicle]
die Apfeltasche = apple turnover; die Abfalltasche = bag of garbage
es ist alles aus = we're out of everything [can also mean: it's all over]; he goes on to explain this by saying "Wir haben DDR-Woche," i.e. it's our "DDR Theme Week": die DDR = the acronym for former East Germany
Die Prinzen: Wer ist der Typ?
Warum ist das relevant?
- Lots of examples with the verb "ich weiß"
- "Kennen" is not used in this song, but here's how the "wissen" vs "kennen" distinction would work in this context:
- Er weiß nicht, wer der Typ ist [=He doesn't know who the guy is];
- Er kennt den Typen nicht [=He doesn't know that guy]. (Note: "der Typ" is an N-noun, so it changes to "den Typen" in the Accusative - but that also doesn't happen in the song)
