Kapitel 9 Teil 1 "Pre-Quiz"

Important information about this assignment (please read this first, then click on the link to the exercise, which you'll find further below!)

  • NOTE 1: Some of the items ask you to combine two sentences by noticing that they both refer to the same person, thing or idea. Usually, the second sentence will use a pronoun to refer to that person, thing or idea, and the relative pronoun will replace that pronoun. The correct relative pronoun will normally "rhyme" with the pronoun it replaces! Note also that the pronoun being replaced should not reappear in the relative clause, since the relative pronoun has replaced it.
  • NOTE 2: Some of the items introduce you to the book Eine Woche voller Samstage, which we will begin reading soon in German 102 (if you are in German 103, you won't be reading this book, but references to "Das Sams" will come up periodically in the course materials ==> please look at the info below, and let your instructor know if you ever have any Sams-related questions!). Although they're intended to be self-explanatory, some of these Sams-related questions may seem a little strange, so here's some background info:
Es hat keine Nase, sondern einen kurzen Rüssel [=a short "trunk," like an elephant has, which looks like a pig's snout on the cover illustration]. Es hat einen dicken, grünen Bauch. Es kann alles essen, und ihm schmeckt alles [=everything tastes good to it].
