Emma is a PhD student in the History Department who has been affiliated with the Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures since she commenced her doctoral studies in fall 2010. She completed her BA (Hons) at the University of Queensland in 2008, and went on to complete a Masters in History at the University of Melbourne. Her Masters thesis looked at discourses on youth cultures and policy in East German cinema from the 1950s to 1989, while her Honours thesis focused on manifestations and contestations of historical memory in the urban landscape of the Berlin Republic. Emma has taught in both German and History at the University of Michigan, and her research interests continue to be based in twentieth-century German cultural history, pertaining particularly to the postwar period. Specifically, she is interested in questions pertaining to visual and material culture, urban spaces and body politics and practices, and the points at which these converge.
