    As Language Program Director, Hartmut Rastalsky is responsible for the first- and second-year German curriculum, and for the training and supervision of GSIs and Lecturers teaching these courses. He is also responsible for the department's courses in Scientific and Engineering German.

    Dr. Rastalsky's research interests center around language pedagogy and language acquisition. He is continually working on revisions of the first and second year language curriculum, the Engineering German curriculum, and of his extensive website for first-, second- and third-year German courses.

    Selected Publications

    • Dr. Rastalsky's "Interactive Grammar Tutor" is freely available online for interested students and teachers. For each grammar topic, it includes a summary, a detailed explanation with extensive, sometimes tongue-in-cheek examples, practice exercises, and diagnostic exercises which students can use to see if they have mastered the topic.
    • Numerous other resources, such as a series of video lectures on first year German, an online flashcard program, an extensive annotated link list, advice on learning strategies, are available via the German 101-326 website.
