Species Focus:
Euphorbia smithii
 This species of Euphorbia is a small tree to 5 m tall. This photo illustrates the pseudoflorous inflorescence (termed the cyathium) which typifies Euphorbia : despite appearing as a single flower, each "stamen" is an individual male flower, and the ovary in the center is a single female flower; the petaloid structures around the edge of the cyathium are actually glands.
