One only has to travel a short distance inland, or farther west toward the Yemeni border, before returning to the harsh, dry desert typical of the country. As a result of the khareef, many plant species thrive during this period, and there are many endemic species, such as Orobanche dhofarensis (Orobanchaceae), Euphorbia dhofarensis (Euphorbiaceae), and the monotypic Dhofaria macleishii (Capparaceae).
