Hanging gardens generally are thought to be getting drier with time, so all these species composing them have a cloudy future.
With the Endangered Species law legally protecting rare species, the ramifications of systematics and identification are much broader than just having a correct name on a list. If this plant is merely Carex parryana growing oddly because of the hanging garden habitat, it should not be protected. The important point is that conservation cannot occur unless organisms are properly identified and named, which is sometimes a challenge in difficult groups.
